There are talks about the commercialization of hydrogen from the 1970s. However, what will finally trigger the breakthrough?

Kind of unpopular opinion but I think that a major differentiator are going to be the big oil and gas companies, hydrogen is the only way for them to survive as they decarbonise and there is no scenario in which they don’t. Green hydrogen is going to be a bigger and bigger part of the market, but blue hydrogen from companies like BP and EXXON is going to be a household product in the future and don’t get me wrong this is a good thing about green hydrogen too. It all comes down to economic incentive, when they can’t lobby their way out of carbon taxes and public opinion towards them continues to dwindle they are going to push towards their H2 production branding it as a planet saver. Where I’m from, Greece, all new LNG terminals are LH2 ready. So the seeds are slowly being planted.
