    I presume this is the reaction you are referencing: CO2 + 4 H2 = CH4 + 2 H2O. The LHV of CH4 is -802 kJ/gmol and the LHV of H2 is -242 kJ/gmol. More energy is available using the H2 directly rather than using the H2 to convert CO2 to CH4.
