• Hydrogen from biogas

    Hi ,

We have a facility which is generating electricity from biogas. Is it wise to produce hydrogen there by the use of electrolyser or should we proceed with steam reformation to get hydrogen directly from biogas? Which one will be more efficient?

    Thank you.

I think the ideal solution would be an electrolyzer, but there are a couple of problems. First, electrolyzers are very hard to get due to the low production numbers over the next 2 years. Second, electrolyzers require you to replace stacks several times over the life of the hardware so they can be an expensive investment. These two conditions would lead me to recommend an SMR unit since the technology has been fully developed and is cheaper than an electrolyzer.
